In 1988, David and Diane Cobb found a ridgeline west of Occidental, just a few miles from the Pacific, and planted what would become Coastlands Vineyard. When their son Ross, who had gone on to become viticulturist and enologist for Williams Selyem joined them, two generations of the Cobb family came together to found Cobb Wines in 2001. What began as a small family project has become one of the defining voices of the far Sonoma Coast.

Cobb’s philosophy centers on three estate vineyards farmed sustainably along one of the coolest, foggiest edges of Sonoma County. Ross is known for a precise, cool-climate style of Pinot Noir that lets each site speak plainly for itself, alongside small-lot Chardonnay and Riesling grown in the same marine sedimentary soils. The wines carry the character of the place that made them: sea breeze, redwood, and restraint.

Working across estate sites including Coastlands, Doc’s Ranch, and other cherished West Sonoma Coast vineyards, Ross farms much of the fruit himself, still living on the original family property. The result is a small, handcrafted collection of wines recognized for their balance, elegance, and ageability, and for staying true to the land they come from.
